The Event 2007

‘The Event 2007’ was held at Elvington Circuit, York, on the 21st June 2007 for the benefit of SICL customers to have a great day out whilst attending presentations on the latest technologies from; Asigra, Cisco, HDS, Ipswitch, Questmark, Riverbed, and Star Technology.

The main event was the 'Stars in a reasonably priced car' experience based upon the popular BBC TV ‘Top Gear’ feature. Guests were given tuition and instruction by professional drivers such as Martyn Bell of the BMW Racing Team and Andy Curtis of Aston Martin amongst others. Following tuition and practice laps guests competed in a fast-lap against the clock for a place on the Leaderboard.

Prize giving and commentary on the driving and the event was by Top Gear’s James May.

Background activities included ‘hot rides’, which gave guests the chance to be thrilled (scared?) on fast slalom course in many different and unusual cars including Aerial Atoms, Furys, Nobles and Porches amongst others. SICL also used The Event to promote ‘Yorkshire Air Ambulance’ as their chosen charity and publicise the cause for corporate sponsorship and donations.

Congratulations to the winners:.

1st Place – Mike Lindley of YAA
2nd Place – Martin Firth of Tricon
3rd Place – Alistair Bell of Gekko.

Congratulations also to the Quiz-Card winner Darren Stone of West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue.
